Birding pictures in Zooming ! Gorgeous !

Zooming seems to have found it's second niche after babies with Birding pictures. We are lucky to have a friendly photographer sharing his beautiful photos with us, direct from the French site of Nature Photography. His name is Philippe Pennel and he takes pictures of Sparrows who come to play in his backyard.

Zoom on each image down to discover the beauty of these "common" but beautiful birds.

Thank you Philippe for sharing with us.

Featured on the Billaut Show (in French)

Here I am on the "Billaut Show", France premiere techno blog, explaining what Zoomomail is all about. We have made no other media appearance but this one is sort of a "must" in France. We will come out once we are satisfied that the authoring application is stable and the feature set satisfactory. We are making new release everyweek with bugfixes. Thank you all for your constructive feedback !

Macro Photography

A good friend of mine, excellent amateur photographer, asked me how Zooming would work for Macro Photography. I thought it was an excellent question. So I went back into my files and digged some Orchids shots I had done last April at the New York Botanical Garden. Done in 10M pixels with no tripod and no extra lighting.

What you see is the beautiful texture of the flowers, and extreme details that you would not have noticed except with a magnifier.

But you can also create nice layouts with your flowers or insect shots to better express their beauty. This is probably fantastic for bird shots. If anyone has sample pictures make a Zoomomail and send it to me (zoomoman (at) zoomorama (dot) com).

Views of New York

The weather was awful on Friday night in New York, but gorgeous over the weekend. My friend Cathline and I went around Queens and the Bronx on the bikes, it was great fun. The Bronx has totally changed since the famous early 80's movie  Koyaanisqatsi where you see desolation and filth. Today the Bronx is suburbia, with beautiful views of the Long Island Sound. They call it Bronxtucket...

Along our rides I took a few pictures of the city. So enjoy the Bicycling, and enjoy the views of New York. It is an amazing city. Back in Paris I'll do a Zoomomail about Biking in Paris - It fantastic too.

Zooming Sushi !

Currently spending time in New York I had the pleasure of meeting the great chef for Genji Sushi. I was able to take some pictures of his creation before savoring them. Here again we discover how 10Mpixels offer us the texture of things, here on food for the first time. I looks as delicious at it was. So when will chefs from all over the world send us their best recipes in Zooming ?

First Friend Zoomomail

Overnight from our Alpha launch I received this wonderful Zoomomail for a friend of mine in China. He just returned from a week in Northwest China with his family, so Zoomomail saved him from the drab Flickr Layout.

I was encouraged that friends could quickly produce such quality work. Also the pictures are truly gorgeous. Worth looking at.

We are getting report of a few bugs, some fun ones too - like the Edit button that gets hidden in 1024x768 screen size. We did not think that resolution still existed. Shame on us ! Otherwise a few issues with sticky panning on the Mac, but very hard to reproduce. The number one request is for images to be downloadable directly from the reader. We are working on that, as well as on a number of neat features. Now that the train is rolling it will accelerate.

I hope you are enjoying your own Zoomomails. Tell you friends about it !

Alpha Launch of Zoomomail

So here is, finaly, the release of Zoomomail in Alpha. Not everything works, and not all we already have working in the lab is included. We learned from the Paris Photo Show that we should concentrate on Pictures first, then offer Video and all the other things we want to share.

But it's a beginning ! Years of working on Zooming, since 1995 with Sony (!), and a lot of technical efforts in the last few months made this possible. The team is in place, from Paris to Saigon, the servers are up and going, and the early feedback is good. We are ready to change the way photography will be perceived for ever, and how we interact with images on the web.

It starts today. I hope you will join us: please go to www.Zoomorama.com and download Zoomomail.

The Paris Photo Show

Here is the report from the Front Line of the Salon de la Photos. We got offered a booth at the very last minute for half price, so we took it !

The show started on Wednesday, we were able to set up on Friday. We distributed 1500 invitations to try the Alpha version of Zoomomail, that means we gave at least 1500 presentations over three days ! Fun.

We also met with Panasonic, Sony, Nikon, and Samsung. Positive. I’ll let you know of the follow up. Anne-Celine met with all the major photography schools that were present at the show. They loved it.

We should have the Alpha version ready for download in the coming days.

A special Thank You to the Zoomorama team who got everything ready in no time: Dai and Sylvain for the servers, David for the last bug fix and the fantastic “Grid” mode in editing, Eric for making the web site work on time, Mr. Long and Nam in Saigon for a very fast Flash viewer, and Dani in Bangkok for an outstanding design. Thanks to Jean-Yves who joined us only on Wednesday but got into the fight right away, becoming a great salesman along the way. Thanks also to Jean Penicaut of Lumiere Technology for providing the Logo and Picture printouts, and to Anne-Celine for calling everyone in Paris to get us a table and a Plasma screen overnight – that girl is a fighter ! Thanks also to Jessie and Davidou who skipped meetings with friends over this beautiful fall weekend to help us. They had never done a show before but did a GREAT job. Without you we would not have done it.

 Enjoy.

Getting Ready

OK, we are getting ready to launch in Alpha for testing.

The web site is up with all the animations by Dani. We like it's simplicity.

Today we received a gift from fate when the director of the Paris Photography Show offered us a stand in the show for half price. Someone did come to take their place, so he practically gave it to us. So come and see us ! We'll be at Porte de Versaille, Hall 4, Stand G 17 - right in front of the "Paul" Café.

It was very last minute, but the team made it work. The new servers are up and going, Zoomomail and Zoomolocal now work, all online. We will make a lot of improvements in the coming weeks, but we are ready to uncover our work after years of efforts.

We hope to see you there.
